Saturday 28th December. Sustranse/ Friends of the Earth – Oxfam – Christian          Aid coalition on climate chaos rally at the Senedd steps Cardiff.

Earlier in the week Ruth – my sister – received an email from Bleddyn at Friends of the Earth Cardiff to ask if she and myself “Sisters on the Shore” would be able to sing a song at the “Stop the Climate Chaos” march at the Senedd – in anticipation of the global climate talks in Paris. I’d penciled in my diary to “keep weekend free” but also had the climate march penciled in too so it really wasn’t a difficult decision to say yes to be even more a part of this march and rally. Despite the weather being absolutely awful with high winds and torrential rains there was a huge turn out of cyclists and pedestrians – well organized arrangement of AMs and other speakers plus entertainers – including Cor Cochion who got everyone singing. We were to go on last with the song “Let the River Run Free” words by Kate Duhig and music by me – we came up with a very simple version of the song – without guitar or whistle – with Ruth using the melodeon in the verses and her voice in the choruses. (This was due to the fact that we’d been pre warned that there would only be 1 microphone and no sound checking time!) It seemed to work really well and people joined in singing a riff we had added especially. Very pleased to have had the energy to be a part of this – and hope that people do take the issues seriously at the talks in Paris.

(recording done at a Friends of the Earth conference we were asked to perform at earlier in the year)

All the politicians from all the parties seemed to be saying how important it is to heed the climate change warnings and how we really need to do something about it – so why on earth aren’t we?
